Praying for some inspiration for God's people today. This is part of what is on my heart. God called this country to a great adventure! Years ago, I heard that the United States was founded as an experiment in freedom. Not a democracy, like we so often hear, but a constitutional republic. A critical difference.
So I promise not to get my school teacher hat on too much (I really was an English/speech/art teacher. Anything but history... Scott's love). But this is important!
In the Declaration of Independence, the word democracy is not even mentioned. The founding fathers feared a democracy as much as a monarchy. Our forefathers understood that the only entity that can take away the people's freedom is their own government, either by either being too weak to protect them from external threats or becoming too powerful and taking over every aspect of their lives! Wow... this part scared me a lot. Remember, our forefathers were godly men, who believed in the Bible, and freedom from oppression. So in a republic the authority/sovereignty resides within the people themselves. And the government is not a nurse maid to tend to all the needs of all the people. The people have no obligation to the government, instead the government is the servant of the people and obliged to its servant, We the People and that is us, you and me!
We have lost sight of the government's role in so many ways. We must wake up to the divine design of our constitutional republic. Our great Constitution limits the powers of government. Where we are somewhat similar to a democracy is that we use the democratic process to elect representatives and pass new laws. Read more about this online, but please pray for a clear mind to see where today's leaders stray from this. We do have a Constitution and it is to protect our blessed people. Let's ask God to protect our adventure here in the United States:
* Pray that God will protect our country from itself. "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?" Psalm 27:1
* Pray that truth will overcome lies in the battle for the leadership of our nation. "Teach me your way, O Lord, lead me in a straight path." Psalm 27:11
* Pray for hope, peace and confidence in you, God, and your provision for your people. "I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living." Psalm 27:13.
Amen
