Day 17 - The Star Spangled Banner (10/14/12)

Day 17 of 40 days of prayer for the election:Originally posted on Facebook on October 14, 2012

Late today and for a great reason. I am my farm in central Texas, enjoying this beautiful Sunday of rest. We also were blessed last night with 1/2 inch of rain!

Today, I again want us to focus on praise, thanksgiving and the beautiful words of a patriotic hymn.

First, I read today this from Jesus Calling: "The sacrifice of thanksgiving rings golden-toned bells of JOY throughout the heavenly realms!"

Then, in Psalm 92: "It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord and to sing praises to your name, oh, most High God."

You knew it was coming: Today is the ultimate patriotic song, "The Star Spangled Banner." Not the verse we all know, but the second stanza. I didn't know there was a second verse but there is, here are the words (sung to the same difficult music!):

"Oh, thus be it ever when free men shall stand between
their loved homes and the war's desolation;
Blest with victory and peace, may the heaven's rescued land,
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved it as a nation!

Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just.
And this be our motto, "In God is our trust!"
And the Star Spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the Land of the Free and the home of the brave!"
Frances Scott Key

Today let us stand free! Let us stand thankful to God! Thanking Him for our country and for all that makes us unique, blessed and unified against the foes that wish to destroy and divide us.

Pray: Our country will stand together and praise God today.

Pray: God's hand of guidance, protection and deliverance for those in this difficult election process.

Pray: God will give us all a heart to love each other, a mind to perceive the truth from the lies, and a will to submit to the plans of our one true God.

Amen
