Day 31 - How Great Thou Art (10/28/12)

Day 31 of 40 days of prayer for the electionOriginally posted on Facebook on October 28, 2012

Sunday! Hymn day!. All along I planned on these last 2 Sundays to focus on our national anthem. God changed those plans for me. My hymn today is "How Great Thou Art."
And here is why:

Last night I saw a link from my friend, Teresa, about the rally Mitt Romney held in Red Rocks, Colorado on October 23. I put a link on my post to the short clip from the rally if you want to watch it. But really convicted me were the comments from the man who did the insider post, the Ulsterman report. He is a longtime political operative, steeped in cynicism regarding politics. You can read his words of amazement at the reaction Mitt Romney had to the overwhelming numbers of people (over 10,000 with 1,000 turned away because of space), the enthusiasm of the crowd, and the realization of what was happening. The man doing the post says, "it was like watching a candidate being transformed right before his eyes into the new Leader of the Free World!" But what really got to him was what happened after the speech, when there was elation, laughing, joy and back-slapping behind the stage. He said Mitt stepped back quietly, just slightly away from the crowd, and some heard him quietly say the following: "Lord, if this is your will, please help to make me worthy. Please give me the strength, Lord."

Wow! He was humbled to his core. With the deafening sounds of the crowd chanting his name, Mitt did not look at himself and how great he was, but humbly asked God for what he needed: strength.
On a personal note, I must confess, like the observer in the above, that at the beginning of the campaign, it was ABO (anybody but O). But my belief now is that the promotion of the man, Mitt Romney, is now my focus and should be all of ours. I have been transformed in my thinking that is isn't the choice of the lesser of two evils, but that this man is God's choice, as we see the transformation and humble heart of Mitt Romney.

STRENGTH: that is the word for today for me. Let us claim Isaiah 40:28-31: "Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength, They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

So in the crush of a rally of 10,000 people, in the chanting of his name, in the temptation to think how great he was, Mitt Romney turned to God and asked Him, if it was His Will, to be made worthy. And for strength! God will answer his prayer, I am sure. Not because he is confident in his own strength, but because he called upon the name of the Lord, and knows from where real strength comes.

Pray:

*Father, give strength to the one who asks. Give Mitt Romney physical and mental strength to complete the race in Your Power.

*Please, Jesus, give us strength to stay strong in your power for the live we lead today.

*Lord, give us boldness to speak the truth and humility to know from where all wisdom comes.

*God, let us sing "How Great Thou Art" with a new enlightened voice! We trust in You alone, Father!

Amen
