Work. That is the focus for me today. On Monday, too. Doesn't sound like an uplifting thought? We associate that word negatively. God did not design it to be that way. When God created Adam, he also gave him jobs to do. God intended work to fulfill us, to challenge and inspire us, to receive a reward, and to glorify Him.
Yesterday, my pastor spoke about work and the reward that is eternal. In today's world, not many of us think of work as pleasure or an offering to God. Just think of this: our mighty, powerful God does not need us to get up each morning to design a building, teach a child, or dig a ditch. He could do that Himself, as the Master of the Universe. But God gives us jobs, just as He did Adam, to give meaning to our existence, to glorify Him, and to invest for eternity, even in the menial. Max Lucado shares that he knew one stay at home Mom who has this sign over her kitchen sink: "Divine tasks performed here, daily." We should work at each task as if working for The Lord. Working for The Lord is a joy, because we do it in gratitude for what He has done for us. His Hand in what we do removes the drudgery and replaces it with fulfillment. So our choice of career should only be made with God's leading. That is what makes all the difference!
So what does this have to do with the election? Jobs! Bet we have heard it a thousand times: this election is all about JOBS! You bet it is! Americans are out of work, and can't find jobs in any field. The blessings of work are gone and so are the wages. This has put a large portion of our nation in a desperate situation. No work, no income, nothing to do but worry, forcing dependence on welfare or family, and no fulfillment in doing what God has called them to do.
At the top, we have an individual who has not performed his job well. Perhaps God has another job for him to do (please, Lord!). Job performance is critical from the top down. When we look at performance in this situation, we, the voters, have a choice to fire or rehire. It is also our responsibility to look at the big picture, not just our own needs. Our country is hurting. We need leadership. We must hire someone to run our country who can "create" jobs. This is not a magic trick. There are specific, proven ways to get our people back to work. Let us pray for jobs and the right leadership to lead our country into prosperity again. Our ultimate goal as believers here on earth is to work with all our might, with all the time we have left, at the job God has blessed us to do.
Colossians 3:23 "whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for The Lord, not for man."
Pray:
* Help us see You, Father, as the ultimate giver of the job we do each day.
* Lord, please use this election, our choice, to select a man who can put us back to work.
* Bless and protect those who are in harm's way today because of the mighty storm pounding our country.
* Mighty God, lead us with Your wisdom as our country decides whether to fire or rehire the current president.
Amen
